Before surgery, the pre-operative nurses double check all the details before preparing any medication.
Versed (Midazolam) is an important medication used for surgery. It is classified as a sensitive benzodiazepine, which means it helps to reduce synaptic activity, or helps calm the patient before surgery. It is a GABAa positive allosteric modulator. It works by binding to the GABA receptor and allowing the receptor to open more frequently. This mechanism of action is similar to that of alcohol. Versed, in high doses, also helps induce amnesia. This medication is often used in concert with Propofol and Fentanyl for Monitored Anesthesia Care (M.A.C) sedation.

Local anesthesia plays an important role in orthopedics
Even with local or M.A.C anesthesia, full equipment is available for emergency care.
Nurse Anesthetists often use Propofol, a powerful hypnotic anesthetic in conjunction with these techniques to provide the best patient comfort.
Due to the nature of Propofol, strict aseptic technique is always used when drawing up.
The team is always prepared with many medications at hand, in case anything was to go wrong
After a "Time Out" the surgeon begins the case
Surgical Technologists play an important role in the maintenance of the sterile field. They also are responsible for constantly maintain a count of all the instruments on the field.
Every member of the team has an important role they must stay on top of the entire case.
A careful hand reaches for the next instrument.
Warm blankets are ready for the patent after surgery to keep them comfortable.
After extensive post operation monitoring, the patient is disconnected from the machines and sent home.
Eventually, the team goes home, as well.
